Count the trees on the plaza at Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels, Los Angeles CA (2026-07-07)
The plaza grounds at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels could shade more of downtown Los Angeles, but nobody has counted what's growing there now or where new trees could go. Standard: i-Tree canopy protocol; SDG 11.7 Proof: photo per tree + GPS waypoints + species/condition/DBH log Method (i-Tree canopy / street-tree inventory, ~30-60 min): 1. Walk the corridor; record a GPS waypoint at each tree. 2. Photograph each surveyed tree. 3. Record species (best estimate), condition class (good/fair/poor/dead), and DBH (diameter at breast height). 4. Count vacant planting sites. 5. Enter the per-tree records, vacant-site count, GPS, photos into the proof record; sign. Equipment: GPS phone, DBH tape or measuring tape, tree ID reference, camera, hi-vis vest Done when: Per-tree species + condition + DBH recorded; Vacant planting sites counted; GPS waypoint per tree; Photo per surveyed tree
