Steps

1. 1. Photograph every product to be replaced BEFORE, label and ingredient panel legible.
2. 2. Record each product's manufacturer, name, and any declaration number.
3. 3. Check each against the current Red List; record which listed chemical class triggers it.
4. 4. Identify a substitute with a Declare label, HPD, or published full disclosure — not a marketing claim.
5. 5. Confirm the substitute performs the same function at the same location (fire rating, wet area, structural).
6. 6. Install or swap per the substitute's own instructions.
7. 7. Photograph AFTER with the new product's label legible, and keep the declaration document.
8. 8. Record the disposal route for the removed product.

If it does not match the plan

• Product is suspected asbestos-containing (pre-1990 building) -> stop; licensed abatement only.
• No disclosed substitute exists -> document the gap and stop; an undisclosed swap is not an improvement.
• Substitute lacks the required fire or wet-area rating -> reject it regardless of chemistry.
• Removed product is hazardous -> route to household hazardous waste, never the general stream.

What counts as done

• Before and after photos with both product labels legible
• The Red List chemical class that triggered each replacement, named in the record
• A Declare label, HPD, or equivalent disclosure kept for every substitute
• Function-equivalence confirmed for rating-sensitive locations
• Disposal route recorded for every removed product
