How this work is done
A documented method, so this packet comes out the same whoever does it. Typically 120–300 minutes. Method of record: SDG 15 restoration leadership — plan, supervise, and record a multi-person restoration so the outcome survives the crew leaving
Bring
- site plan
- species list + counts
- hand tools for the crew
- water source
- first-aid kit
- camera + phone with GPS
- sign-in sheet
Steps
- Photograph the site BEFORE with GPS on and a legible timestamp; confirm you are inside the posting radius.
- 2. Brief the crew: task, boundaries, hazards, and the stop conditions. Record attendance.
- 3. Confirm utility locate is complete before any digging is assigned.
- 4. Assign work in defined zones so coverage is provable rather than assumed.
- 5. Supervise technique on the first few units of each task; correct before it is repeated a hundred times.
- 6. Record species, counts, and locations as the work proceeds, not from memory afterwards.
- 7. Water in and mulch before the crew leaves; unwatered planting is unfinished planting.
- 8. Photograph AFTER and record the maintenance handoff: who waters, and when.
If it does not match the plan
- Utility locate not complete -> no digging is assigned, full stop.
- A volunteer is working unsafely -> stop that task immediately and re-brief.
- Heat index or weather turns hazardous -> stop; document partial completion.
- Species on the list is unavailable -> substitute only with a documented native equivalent, and record the substitution.
- No maintenance owner identified -> the restoration is not complete; record the gap.
What counts as done
- Crew sign-in recorded
- Utility locate confirmed before any digging
- Species, counts, and zone locations recorded during the work
- Everything watered and mulched before the crew left
- A named maintenance owner and schedule in the record
- Before and after photos from the same position, GPS inside the posting radius, timestamps legible
Proof is measured against these, not judged by taste.
