Plant approved parkway trees on North Long Beach's bare west-side blocks
North Long Beach's west side has block after block of empty parkway strips within a mile of the 710 truck corridor, exactly where canopy would do the most for air and heat. Each approved tree planted and staked on these blocks is a permanent addition to the neighborhood's thin green cover. Standard: City of Long Beach parkway tree planting practice and ISA standards; SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities). Proof: Per-tree planting sequence photos Method (City of Long Beach parkway tree planting practice and ISA standards; SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities).): 1. Confirm approved spots and species with the city or host program and get utilities marked. 2. Dig each hole twice root-ball width and root-ball deep at marked spots only. 3. Set trees straight, backfill, form basins, and stake loosely. 4. Water each tree in with fifteen gallons and mulch clear of trunks. 5. Photograph each planted tree from two angles with date and GPS. Done when: Per-tree planting sequence photos
How this work is done
A documented method, so this packet comes out the same whoever does it. Typically 30–60 minutes. Method of record: i-Tree canopy / street-tree inventory
Bring
- GPS phone
- DBH tape or measuring tape
- tree ID reference
- camera
- hi-vis vest
Steps
- 1. Walk the corridor; record a GPS waypoint at each tree.
- 2. Photograph each surveyed tree.
- 3. Record species (best estimate), condition class (good/fair/poor/dead), and DBH (diameter at breast height).
- 4. Count vacant planting sites.
- 5. Enter the per-tree records, vacant-site count, GPS, photos into the proof record; sign.
If it does not match the plan
- Dead or hazardous tree observed -> flag for the responsible agency (no removal by surveyor).
- High vacant-site count -> recommend a planting plan for the corridor.
What counts as done
- Per-tree species + condition + DBH recorded
- Vacant planting sites counted
- GPS waypoint per tree
- Photo per surveyed tree
Proof is measured against these, not judged by taste.
