intermediate work · Public parkway at a bus stop on Alessandro Blvd near Perris Blvd, Moreno Valley, CA 92553
Plant a shade tree beside a baking bus stop on Alessandro Boulevard in Moreno Valley
Moreno Valley's bus riders — disproportionately workers commuting to the warehouses — wait on unshaded pads through desert-edge summers. A desert-hardy shade tree planted in the parkway behind a stop is a decades-long fix for the daily wait. The wide bare parkways along Alessandro have room for a whole row of them. Standard: CAL FIRE Urban & Community Forestry planting standards — SDG 11, SDG 13. Proof: Before-and-after photos of the stop and the planted tree Method (CAL FIRE Urban & Community Forestry planting standards — SDG 11, SDG 13.): 1. Confirm the approved parkway spot behind the stop and call 811. 2. Dig the hole twice the root-ball width. 3. Plant a heat-hardy shade tree, stake it, and build a watering basin. 4. Water in deeply and mulch off the trunk. 5. Photograph the planted tree beside the stop with GPS and date. Done when: Before-and-after photos of the stop and the planted tree
How this work is done
A documented method, so this packet comes out the same whoever does it. Typically 30–60 minutes. Method of record: i-Tree canopy / street-tree inventory
Bring
- GPS phone
- DBH tape or measuring tape
- tree ID reference
- camera
- hi-vis vest
Steps
- 1. Walk the corridor; record a GPS waypoint at each tree.
- 2. Photograph each surveyed tree.
- 3. Record species (best estimate), condition class (good/fair/poor/dead), and DBH (diameter at breast height).
- 4. Count vacant planting sites.
- 5. Enter the per-tree records, vacant-site count, GPS, photos into the proof record; sign.
If it does not match the plan
- Dead or hazardous tree observed -> flag for the responsible agency (no removal by surveyor).
- High vacant-site count -> recommend a planting plan for the corridor.
What counts as done
- Per-tree species + condition + DBH recorded
- Vacant planting sites counted
- GPS waypoint per tree
- Photo per surveyed tree
Proof is measured against these, not judged by taste.
