Steps

1. Report to the facility's responsible officer on arrival (headteacher, clinic in-charge, facility manager) and confirm the visit is expected. An institutional water point sits inside somebody's duty of care, and the verification is done with them, not around them.
2. Navigate to the registered water point and confirm GPS matches the project's registered asset ID.
3. Photograph the water point and confirm it is operational by test-flowing or test-pumping it, recording the flow rate against what the project registered.
4. Verify the on-site water-quality indicators the project specifies (free-chlorine residual or turbidity) and record the reading with the time it was taken.
5. Observe the safe-water-chain practices actually in use at the facility: covered storage, condition of collection vessels, and whether a functioning handwashing station with soap is available and reachable by the people who use the point, including children where the facility serves them.
6. Check the maintenance logbook for the period since the last visit and record repairs, downtime and who carried them out. Confirm the facility knows who to call, because an institutional asset with no named caretaker fails silently between visits.
7. Count or estimate the population currently served in the facility's own units: enrolled students, daily patients, staff and regular users, plus any surrounding community drawing on the point. Do not convert to dwellings; the project's service area for an institutional point is measured in people through the door.
8. Complete the WASH functionality and safe-use checklist per the project's monitoring plan, and enter asset ID, GPS, photos, readings, checklist and any flagged deficiency into the proof record; sign.
