- Dig a planting hole twice the width of the root ball and exactly as deep, keeping the root flare at grade.
- Set the tree, backfill with native soil, and build a watering basin around the trunk.
- Stake loosely only if the site is windy, water deeply, and top with a 3-inch mulch ring kept off the trunk.
- Photograph each planted tree with its basin and record species, count, and GPS location.
