- 1. From the public trail only, photograph the ground layer beneath the pine canopy, noting bare ground, non native grass cover, or thin native bunchgrass structure.
- 2. Note the approximate extent of the bare or degraded stretch.
- 3. Watch for standing snags near the stretch and keep well clear while observing. Standing dead trees (snags) can fail and drop limbs without warning; keep at least 30 feet of stand off from any standing snag at all times and never work beneath one.
- 4. Record a ranked follow on note naming the stretch for a native bunchgrass planting install.
