Steps

1. 1. From a set back position on established public ground, never at the rim edge itself, photograph any bare, eroded, or vehicle rutted ground where visitor or vehicle traffic has concentrated near the canyon rim at a public pull off. This work never descends into the canyon, climbs, scrambles, or rappels on any canyon wall or rim rock, and never approaches the rim edge itself, at any skill level. All canyon observation happens from a set back position on established public ground, at least several body lengths back from any undercut or unstable rim edge, or from a public road; that set back distance is maintained at all times. Limestone rim edges in this canyon country are undercut in places and can fail without warning.
2. 2. Note the width and extent of the disturbed or eroding ground, and whether it appears to be advancing toward the rim edge.
3. 3. This documents rim edge zone erosion from vehicle and visitor concentration, not the rim edge itself; state the observation point relative to a road landmark, never a claim of exact distance to the true undercut edge.
4. 4. Record a ranked follow on note naming the pull off for a rim setback delineation crew.

What counts as done

• Photo of the disturbed or eroding rim edge ground taken from a set back position
• Disturbance extent and direction of advance noted
• Confirmation that this work never descended into the canyon, climbed, scrambled, or rappelled on any canyon wall or rim rock, and never approached the rim edge, staying set back on established public ground or a public road at all times; that no canyon wall seep, spring, hanging garden, or other water on site was entered, waded in, dipped into, drunk from, or otherwise disturbed, and no water sample was collected; that no cultural or archaeological feature was mentioned, located, described, or photographed; that no organism or plant was handled or collected; that no precise location of an individual seep, spring, nest, den, or roost was recorded or published; that the work stayed within public road right of way, public building grounds, or a consenting resident's own home and never crossed onto private ranch land; and that the county's remoteness, given Sanderson as the only town of any size and absent cell coverage over most of the county, was accounted for with a stated plan, return time, and water carried.
