- 2. Measure the headcut's approximate height (the vertical drop) and pace off how far it appears to have migrated upslope from any visible older scarp, photographing the measurement.
- 3. Note whether the flow reaching this point looks concentrated by the ditch's shape, a straight, engineered-looking channel, rather than following a natural, meandering contour.
- 4. Record a ranked follow on note naming the site for a grade-control crew, and state the observation point relative to the nearest cross street or landmark, never an asserted mile marker.
