- 3. For each piece, note whether it sits against a pier, culvert, or crossing structure (infrastructure) or out in the open channel or floodplain margin (open), without touching or entering the water to check.
- 4. Record the total count by size class and by infrastructure/open split, and rate the reach's apparent wood loading as low, moderate, or high.
