What the work involvesMenard High School's irrigation system draws off the same water main that feeds its drinking fountains and taps, through a backflow preventer assembly that has to stay above grade, unburied and clearly visible to do its job. Confirm with facilities and grounds staff whether the assembly is already marked and protected from mowers, edgers and landscaping work; where it is not, an unmarked riser gets scalped by a mower, buried under fresh mulch, or crowded by new planting, any of which can defeat the device without anyone noticing.

- 1. Confirm with facilities and grounds staff the exact location of the irrigation system's backflow preventer assembly and get permission before working near it.
- 2. Clear a visible, mower-safe radius of at least two feet around the assembly by hand, without touching, opening, or adjusting the device itself.
- 3. Install a protective marker, a brightly colored flexible stake, a small standoff cage, or a mow-around ring, around the assembly so ground crews can see and avoid it at a glance.
- 4. Photograph the marked, protected assembly from an angle that shows it clearly standing above grade, and record its location for the school's own maintenance map.
