Steps

1. 1. From a fixed public or property vantage well back from the pole, observe for pellet debris, whitewash streaking below the entrance, or an adult seen entering or perched at the box, without approaching or lowering the pole.
2. 2. Record whether the box reads active or inactive for the season based only on what was seen from the fixed vantage.
3. 3. Stake flags and run marking tape or rope at a set radius (about 20 feet) around the pole base, and record that radius.
4. 4. Deliver the marked buffer and a note to school facilities staff asking that mowing and heavy foot traffic stay outside the marked radius through the active season, and photograph the finished marked buffer.
