Steps

1. 1. Confirm the run's predator-proofing is complete before placing any fixture inside it; photograph the run's current shade and water setup (or lack of one) before starting.
2. 2. Rig a shade panel or shade cloth over a portion of the run using ground-level posts or the existing fence line, never a roof structure and never work above a single story.
3. 3. Set an elevated waterer (nipple or trough style) in the shaded portion, off direct ground contact, and fill it.
4. 4. Photograph the finished shade panel and elevated waterer from the matching before vantage, and record the waterer capacity and refill routine agreed with the resident.
5. 5. Wash hands thoroughly with soap and water immediately after any contact with the coop, run, litter, or compost, and wear dedicated boots or shoes for this chore that stay outside and never come indoors.
