Steps

1. 1. Confirm with the resident that this tree is already scheduled to come down for its own reasons, and that the crew doing that work is willing to leave a tall stump instead of grinding it flush; this rung never operates a saw or any cutting tool and never brings a tree down itself, that work is a separate, already-arranged job. Photograph the standing tree before it comes down.
2. 2. Agree the retained stump height with the resident and the crew, typically 6 to 10 feet where it is safe to do so, marked with flagging tape at the agreed line before the crew works.
3. 3. After the crew has finished and confirmed the site is clear, measure the retained stump's actual height from the ground and install a small weatherproof tag near its base noting it as a retained wildlife stump.
4. 4. Photograph the finished tall stump from the matching before vantage and record its measured height and diameter.
