Steps

1. 1. Confirm the log has completed at least six months of incubation and shows white spawn colonization at a cut test-plug end before attempting a soak; a log soaked too early wastes the trigger.
2. 2. Submerge the log fully in a tub or clean container of cool water for 24 hours, weighted down if it floats, then return it to its shaded rack, propped at a slight angle to drain.
3. 3. Check the log daily starting three to five days after the soak for pins (small emerging mushroom caps) breaking through the bark, and once caps appear, watch daily until they reach harvest size.
4. 4. Harvest each cultivated mushroom by hand, twisting or cutting it cleanly at the base, within the flush window of a few days; photograph the harvested crop still on the log and again in a labelled container, and record the weight harvested.
