What the work involves

Rodeo's homes sit directly downhill and downwind of a major refinery complex, and residents have lived through flaring episodes, odor events, and a documented history of releases. Official monitors exist, but the community's own dated record (visible plumes, flare activity, odor notes from public streets) is what fills the gaps between agency reports and lived experience.

  1. Walk or drive a fixed route of four public vantage points in residential Rodeo with sightlines toward the industrial fenceline.
  2. Photograph the skyline from each point at the same angles, noting any visible plume, flare, or haze.
  3. Record odor presence and character, wind direction, and time on the log card.
  4. Note the air district's public monitor reading for the same hour where available.
  5. File photos and the card as one dated record; report strong odor events through the district's complaint line.
