Steps

  1. Choose a shaded spot in the garden with drainage away from any structure.
  2. Assemble a three-bin wood or wire compost enclosure per the standard plan.
  3. Post a one-page sign showing what can and cannot go in the bin.
  4. Add the first layer of garden trimmings and dry leaves in a 1:2 ratio.
  5. Turn the pile with a garden fork to mix layers.
  6. Photograph the finished bin and the posted sign.
