Steps

1. 1. Record the home-care baseline: brushing cadence, products used, and whether each product carries the VOHC seal.
2. 2. With a gentle lip lift in good light, observe (never probe): breath odor, visible calculus, a red line at the gumline, broken or discolored teeth.
3. 3. Record eating-behavior signs: dropping food, chewing one-sided, pawing at the mouth, drooling, reluctance with hard food.
4. 4. Coach the daily-brushing standard: introduce over 1-2 weeks (taste the paste, then finger, then brush), aiming at the outer surfaces, seconds per side to start.
5. 5. Where brushing is truly refused, select VOHC-accepted adjuncts and record them as adjuncts, not substitutes.
