Steps

1. Move each scored animal, one at a time, across a flat, unobstructed, non-slip walking surface at its own pace, without forcing or rushing it.
2. Observe the animal's back posture both standing still and while walking, and record whether the back is flat or arched.
3. Observe the animal's gait (stride length, weight-bearing, head bob, tracking-up) while it walks.
4. Combine the posture and gait observations to assign a single locomotion score from 1 (normal) to 5 (severely lame, often non-weight-bearing) per the Sprecher descriptions.
5. Record the score against the animal's ID, pen or group, and date in a dated herd log.
6. Compare the round's score distribution to the prior round's when one exists.
7. List every animal scoring 4-5, and any non-weight-bearing animal, and route each to a veterinarian or professional hoof trimmer.
