Steps

1. Walk the property and identify a single, marked Line of Separation around the coop that all birds, feed, water, and clean equipment must stay inside of, and that visitors, wild birds, and street shoes must stay outside of.
2. Record whether dedicated footwear or boot covers exist and are worn every time before crossing the Line of Separation.
3. Confirm and record the flock's new-and-returning-bird quarantine practice: a minimum 30 days in a separate airspace before introduction, per APHIS guidance.
4. Inspect feed and water sources for wild-bird and rodent access (open feeders, unsealed feed storage, gaps in coop siding) and record each gap found.
5. Record the coop and equipment cleaning and disinfection cadence in place.
6. Confirm and record the keeper's named sick/dead-bird reporting route: the state veterinarian or USDA APHIS's toll-free line, 1-866-536-7593.
7. List every gap found against the checklist with a dated fix assigned to each.

What is promised, and what is not
