Steps
- 1. Navigate to the permanent plot marker; confirm GPS is within the posting radius and matches the registered plot ID.
- 2. Photograph the plot from the fixed photo-point bearing, capturing vegetation cover and any visible disturbance.
- 3. Record percent cover by species within the quadrat frame per the monitoring plan's vegetation protocol.
- 4. Read the surface elevation table (or measure marker-horizon accretion depth) at each fixed pin/measurement point; record to the nearest millimeter.
- 5. Extract a soil core to the required depth at the plot's fixed coring point; section by depth interval and bag each section with stratum/plot/depth labels.
- 6. Collect a paired bulk-density core at the same depth intervals using a known-volume corer.
- 7. Package sectioned cores with chain-of-custody paperwork for lab analysis of organic carbon and bulk density; note tidal stage and salinity at time of sampling.
- 8. Enter plot ID, GPS, elevation/accretion readings, cover data, photos, and chain-of-custody number into the proof record; sign.
