  • form lumber or edging + level
  • concrete mix or masonry repair mortar + trowel + float
  • tape measure + level + camera

Steps

  1. 1. ASSESS: measure the failed step's rise/run against the adjacent steps and the sidewalk grade; photograph the failure; confirm no utility lines run through the work area.
  2. 2. Remove the broken/spalled material down to sound substrate; form the new step edge to match the original rise/run.
  3. 3. Place and finish the new concrete/mortar to a level, non-slip surface, matching the adjacent step heights within a safe tolerance.
  4. 4. Cure per spec (barricade the stoop from use during cure) and verify the finished step's rise/run and level with a level and tape measure.
  5. 5. Photograph the finished, cured step from the same before vantage and remove the barricade only once fully cured.
