What the work involves

Steps

  1. Photograph the existing sump pit, primary pump, and discharge line before work; confirm pit depth and discharge routing (away from the foundation, per code).
  2. Set the battery-backup pump and float switch in the pit above the primary pump's on-level per manufacturer spec.
  3. Wire the backup pump to its dedicated battery/charger unit (plug-in trickle charger to a standard outlet, no electrical panel work) and connect its discharge into the shared line via the check-valve tee.
  4. Test by lifting both floats independently (simulate primary failure) and confirm the backup pump activates and discharges cleanly.
  5. Photograph the finished install and the passed dual-float test; log the battery install date for the household's maintenance record.
