What the work involves

Nearly all of Maywood's housing predates the 1978 lead-paint ban, and peeling exterior paint on porches and window trim sheds lead dust into the same yards already burdened by Exide fallout. A dated photo record of visibly failing exterior paint, taken from sidewalks and invited walkways without touching anything, helps residents apply to county lead-hazard remediation programs with evidence in hand.

Steps

  1. Walk the assigned blocks and photograph, from the public sidewalk, exterior paint that is visibly peeling, flaking, or chalking on pre-1978 homes.
  2. Log each condition by address range, surface (trim, porch, siding), and severity on the survey sheet.
  3. At invited doorsteps, photograph failing paint from the walkway and leave the county lead-program flyer with the resident.
  4. Mark households that want follow-up on the sheet with their consent.
  5. Photograph the completed sheet with date and GPS at the final corner.
