Photograph a shaded span and an unshaded control span at Project Nexus canal-top solar from one public vantage. Putting panels over a canal is supposed to do two things at once: save water that would evaporate and cool the modules so they earn more. This is where that is actually being tested, run by Turlock Irrigation District with Solar AquaGrid and UC Merced, funded by the California Department of Water Resources. Working from public road right-of-way only, read surface temperature in each span with the same instrument, and set your readings beside the district's own published results. the first canal-top solar in the United States: the public questions here are how much evaporation the shade saves, whether the modules run cooler over water, and what the weed load on the bank does when it is no longer sprayed. Your readings are an observation from the roadside; the district's instrumented figures are the authority, and both get published.

Steps

1. Stand only on public road right-of-way or a public vantage. Enter no district, private or tribal land, and do not approach or touch the canal, its banks, gates, fencing or any panel.
2. Record the GPS waypoint, the time, the air temperature, the sky condition and the wind from a named weather source.
3. Photograph the shaded span and an unshaded control span of the same canal from the same vantage, with a scale object in frame.
4. Read surface temperature in the shaded span and in the unshaded control span with the SAME instrument, three readings each, and record the instrument model.
5. Record the operating district's own published evaporation or performance result with its address and date, or mark it not published.
6. Publish the readings, the photographs, the control comparison and the district citation together, claiming no evaporation saving of your own.

What is promised, and what is not
