Steps

1. 1. Get written permission from the owning authority, naming the site and the work, before any measurement, programming or planting.
2. 2. Walk and map the site: irrigated area by landscape type, and for each zone the soil, the slope, the plant type and the head type, photographed as recorded.
3. 3. Pull twelve months of reference evapotranspiration from the nearest public weather station, name the station and the network, and apply plant factors from a cited source rather than from memory.
4. 4. Compute the budget volume and set it beside the site's recorded use, labeling where the use figure came from, then state the gap in both volume and percent and one plain sentence on what could explain it.
5. 5. For a controller packet, save the existing schedule before changing anything, program the new schedule to the zone map, pair the rain or soil moisture sensor, and photograph the old and new schedules side by side. Work at the controller face and an existing outlet only: never open an electrical enclosure and never land a wire.
6. 6. For a turf conversion, mark the strip, smother or hand lift the turf, loosen the soil, plant regionally native low water species at spacing, and mulch. Then obtain written confirmation from the authority that the zone serving the strip has been shut off or re-programmed by their own staff.
