Steps
- 1. Confirm with park staff whether a recovery tube already exists at this pier, and confirm the mounting plan before drilling any hole in the rail or a piling.
- 2. Assemble the recovery tube from schedule 40 PVC pipe and fittings following the published Berkley/NOAA design, with a wide top slot sized for a hand holding a coil of line, never a slot narrow enough to need a hand pushed inside.
- 3. Mount the tube to the pier rail with stainless hose clamps or lag screws, working from the deck side only, standing behind the rail the whole time.
- 4. Label the tube clearly with a weatherproof "USED FISHING LINE ONLY" sign and the install date.
- 5. Photograph the empty, mounted tube from the deck and record its position along the pier.
