Steps
- 1. Verify the licensed foundation-repair contractor's structural plan and permit; photograph the crawlspace access, existing piers/beams, and any moisture source (standing water, plumbing leak, poor grading) before work.
- 2. Run a floor-elevation survey (laser level grid) and mark the low points against the structural plan; record every reading.
- 3. The licensed crew sets jacks, relevels beams to the plan's target elevation, and replaces or shims piers per the engineer's spec -- never load beyond the rated jack capacity.
- 4. Correct the moisture source found in step 1 (grading, downspout redirect, or vapor barrier per the crawlspace's condition) so the releveling isn't undone by the next wet season.
- 5. Re-survey the floor elevation to confirm it meets the plan's target, verify door/window operation upstairs, and photograph the finished piers/beams and crawlspace.
- 6. Pass the local building-permit inspection where required; enter the before/after elevation survey, permit reference, and photos into the proof record; sign it.
