- 2. Locate the wall studs or the stair stringer along the run with a stud finder, marking each anchor point at 34-38 inches above the tread nosing.
- 3. Cut the handrail to length and mount the wall brackets into the marked studs or stringer with lag screws, never into drywall alone.
- 4. Set the rail into the brackets, level it along the full run, and torque every bracket screw to a firm, non-moving hold.
- 5. Hang full body weight on the rail at the top, middle, and bottom of the run to load-test it, then photograph the finished rail with the resident using it.
