Steps

1. Create a free Bumble Bee Watch account at bumblebeewatch.org, or install the free Android/iOS app, before the first survey.
2. Walk the site (garden, park, farm, or natural area) during bloom and active bumble bee flight (warm, calm daylight hours) and locate a foraging bumble bee without disturbing it.
3. Photograph the bee from multiple angles using macro/close-up mode and burst/continuous shooting to catch a sharp frame — always include one photo that captures the face (facial coloration and structure are load-bearing identification characters), plus top and side views of the abdomen and thorax.
4. Record the date, location (GPS or address), and — optionally — the flower species visited; never net, chill, handle, or collect the bee to get a better photo.
5. Upload the photo set and observation data to bumblebeewatch.org or the app; optionally use the site's interactive identification key (abdomen color pattern, thorax band/dot presence) to propose a tentative species.
6. Treat any tentative ID as unconfirmed until Bumble Bee Watch's official expert verifiers review and confirm the species from the submitted photos.
7. If the bee resembles an ESA-listed species (e.g. the rusty patched bumble bee, Bombus affinis), note the resemblance, keep the standard respectful-distance/no-handling rule, and flag the record for priority expert review; never attempt to confirm a listed species by capture.

Date, location, and (optionally) flower visited recorded and submitted through bumblebeewatch.org or the official app
Confirmation recorded that the bee was never netted, chilled, handled, or collected during photography
Any self-proposed species ID recorded as tentative, pending Bumble Bee Watch's official expert-verifier review

What is promised, and what is not

Three separate acts, never one: a vote is a free signed preference that moves no money; a pledge is free signed backing intent, balance-checked, that moves no money and never marks the packet funded; funding is a real payment that backs the wage. Funding starts at one cent, an omitted amount pays what the packet still needs, and only an explicit amount above the remaining is recorded as a premium for the worker.
