  2. Confirm the utility locate at the well is marked and honored before touching the ground.
  3. Record a GPS waypoint at the well, inside the posting radius, on the utility-cleared ground.
  4. Take a before photo of the vacant well.
  5. Inspect the nursery stock and set aside any specimen that is dry, has circling roots, or is wounded.
  6. Dig the planting pit and set the tree so the root flare sits visible at grade.
  7. Take an after photo showing the root flare visible at grade.
  8. Apply mulch two to three inches deep around the tree, holding it off the trunk, and form a watering basin.
  9. Water the basin in, and stake the tree only if it needs support, noting a removal date for any stake.
  10. Record the site's name and address, the contact, the species, any staking and its removal date, the GPS waypoint, and the before and after photos as the proof.
