- Confirm the planting site is a real empty well with adequate clearance and no overhead-wire conflict; photograph it.
- Dig the planting hole to the root-ball depth and width, and set the tree at grade.
- Backfill, water thoroughly, and stake if needed.
- Mulch a 3-inch ring clear of the trunk and photograph the finished planting.
