- Confirm the utility locate at the planting site is complete and honored before digging.
- Put on gloves before handling the sapling and tools, since mesquite and huisache carry thorns.
- Take a before photo of the planting site.
- Record a GPS waypoint at the planting site.
- Dig the hole and set a native honey mesquite, Texas ebony, or huisache sapling so its root flare sits visible at grade.
- Backfill around the root ball and water the tree in.
- Take an after photo from a matching angle showing the root flare visible at grade.
- Record the species planted and its planting distance from the home.
- Submit the permission record, the GPS waypoint, the before and after photos, and the species and distance record.
