The demo · Claude as the on-ramp to meaningful human labor

"AI is changing my field. I want real work that matters." Watch Claude answer.

Two acts. Act one: a person whose work is being reshaped by AI asks Claude for something real to do, and Claude, over MCP, routes them into a competence ladder, step one reachable today. Act two: that packet gets funded, the person proves the work, and it settles to a permanent receipt. This is the future-of-work story with a happy, concrete ending.

Claude with the Work Protocol · MCP
You
I'm a junior copywriter and honestly AI now does most of what I was hired for. I don't want a handout. I want to actually do something real, outdoors, that matters. Where do I even start?
C
That's a completely reasonable thing to want, and there's a real place for it. The Work Protocol runs three "competence ladders" of hands-on work you can start today and grow into: Build, Grow & Cook, and Restore. Let me find something near you on the first rung of the Restore ladder, no credential needed. // Claude calls the Work Protocol over MCP
find_work({ ladder: "restore", skillLevel: "entry", near: "Los Angeles, CA" })
Here's a good first packet:

You
That's actually perfect. How do I claim it? Do I need to sign up for something?
C
No signup gauntlet. You claim it in the browser with a single signature: a wallet, a passkey, or email. I'll open the claim for you and stay with you through the proof and settlement. start_ladder({ packetId: "ewp-restore-4471", actor: "you" }) → claim opened, signature requested When you finish, send a photo from the site. I'll handle the rest. Welcome to the Restore ladder. 🌱

What just happened: the exact thing the Economic Index describes as "augmentation": Claude didn't do the work, and it didn't hand out advice-shaped comfort. It matched a real human to real physical-world work, over your own MCP standard, with a funded path and a first rung reachable today. Switch to Act 2 to watch it settle.

1

Claimed with a signature

No account, no 2FA maze. A validly-signed /labor/claim is the gate: the signature is the identity. Anti-spam caps keep it honest.

2

Funded, or credited

If a buyer funds the packet, the worker is paid on settlement. If no buyer yet, the work still starts and earns credit-or-mint: fund_or_credit() removes the "no demand, no work" wall that stalls every good-jobs program.

3

Proven in the physical world

submit_proof() takes photo + GPS + method. This is the part AI structurally cannot fake and cannot perform: the human did it, and the proof shows it. Machine-verifiable where possible, human-approved where needed.

4

Settled on Base mainnet

settle_and_receipt() writes the outcome on-chain. Where the work is ecological, carbon retires through Klima to a real tCO2e receipt with a canonical beneficiary. The dollar became a verified outcome, not a promise.

The whole loop, and the point: a person whose field was disrupted did dignified, real-world work, got paid or credited, and left a permanent, cited receipt. Every one of these is a data point your Economic Index could count: the positive augmentation category that doesn't have a name yet. The contract, the library, and the settlement are live today; this receipt is illustrative of the real lifecycle already proven on mainnet.

Why this belongs with Anthropic

Claude is the most trusted place people already bring "what do I do now?"

That question is going to be asked of Claude millions of times as fields change. Today the honest answer is empathy and a reading list. With the Work Protocol wired in over MCP, the answer becomes a real first rung: funded, proof-verified, dignified, and countable in your own research. See the files that make it callable.
