The Vealth Standard

A standard for the place already standing.

Someone can cook at a Michelin level and hold no star. A building can meet the Living Building Challenge and never be certified. This standard is for exactly those places: a Standing, earned only by settled, proven work, that lapses when the work stops.

What each rung means

Unread. Nobody has measured it. This is where nearly every place on earth is, and it is not a failure.

Read. Honestly measured, gaps named on the record. One settled measurement with accepted proof on every condition that applies here.

Tended. First repairs landed with before and after evidence on at least five conditions, and one was checked again a season later.

Kept. A maintenance cadence is running. Everything looked at twice in twelve months, nothing sliding backward.

Whole. Twelve straight months across every condition that applies here, nothing trending down, and the place has taught somebody: a person who worked here moved up a rung doing it.

Lapse is real. A standing above Read drops to the highest level still satisfied when a re-measure is missed or any condition’s latest number is worse than the one before it. Lapsing is normal and public, not a penalty: it is the standard doing its job.

Standing is held, not awarded
A live status on maintenance, re-measured on a cadence, which is where the degradation actually happens.
The receipt is the certificate
A bounded packet: evidence before and after, a named steward, a settled wage, on a record nobody can quietly edit. No receipt, no claim.
Every condition has a rung at the ground
Enterable today by a person with no license, no capital, no specialized equipment. Checked by machine, not promised in prose.
Start where it is
A place enters filthy, drafty, cracked, and unmeasured, and that entry is honorable.
Nobody is hurt earning it
A standing built on injured hands is void. Safety work gates every packet and scores no place.

The ten conditions

Each names what gets measured, and a first step anyone can take today with no license; together they map onto the Living Building Challenge, the Michelin Guide and the SDGs.

01 · Shelter holds
Weather stays out and conditioned air stays in. Start today: walk the place with a lit incense stick, photograph and count every draft, seal one.
02 · The air is clean
You breathe better inside than out. Start today: read a low cost carbon dioxide meter in the room you use most, for one day.
03 · The water is honest
It arrives clean, is used carefully, and leaves cleaner than it came. Start today: bucket and stopwatch every tap, write down the gallons per minute.
04 · The power is earned
The place uses less than it did, and makes what it can. Start today: photograph the meter on the same day every month.
05 · Nothing leaves as waste
What comes out of here has a next use. Start today: weigh one week of what leaves, sort it, name the next use for each pile.
06 · The ground is alive
Soil, water, canopy and the small lives on this ground and its street are trending up. Start today: count the trees and the empty tree wells on your block, with photographs.
07 · A person is fed well here
The place can nourish someone to craft standard, from as close as it can get. Start today: cook one meal and write down where every ingredient came from.
08 · Everyone can get here
A person using a wheelchair, a cane, a stroller, or nothing at all can reach this place and use it. Start today: take a tape and a phone level down your own block, log every trip hazard and missing ramp.
09 · The commons is kept
The shared ground is sound and clean, nothing broken is left broken, and what was done is legible to the next person. Start today: walk your block, photograph every broken, tagged or dumped thing, fix the smallest one.
10 · The creatures are well
The animals who share this place are sound, fed, and free from avoidable pain. Start today: body-condition score every animal in your care on the published scale for its species, and write the date down.

The tenth condition is conditionally applicable: whether animals are kept here is a fact about a place, never a permission. A place that keeps none is not scored on it and is not penalised for it.

The boundary

What this is not

Not a certification: there is no committee, no application, no fee, and no plaque. Not a design target: nothing here can be earned on paper before the work is done. Not a replacement for the Living Building Challenge, the Michelin Guide, or the Sustainable Development Goals: it is the maintenance layer under them. Their instruments point at the building that does not exist yet. This one points at the building you are sitting in.

A provisioner is a person who helps a place get better and proves the work. Your status comes from the work and the receipt, not from buying a course.

Money

What costs money, and what never does

Free: the standing
The reading recomputes from receipts every time this page opens, the authority document is free to read, and every verification is free forever. A Standing cannot be purchased at any price, only worked.
Five dollars: the teaching
The Ground Rungs course teaches every ground rung to craft standard, one payment. Buying it does not award a title; doing and proving the work is what makes someone a provisioner. The rungs’ names and outputs stay free on this page forever.
A wage: the work
When a buyer funds a packet, the posted price settles to whoever did the work, written onchain, public and permanent. So far every settlement has been our own labeled demonstration; the board’s live counters are the record. Doing the work costs nothing to enter.
