  1. Confirm the well's utility clearance (call 811 before digging) and photograph the empty, prepped well.
  2. Dig the planting hole to match the root ball depth (not deeper), matching the trunk flare to finish grade.
  3. Set the tree, backfill, and form a watering basin; stake only if needed for wind exposure.
  4. Deep-water in and mulch the basin, keeping mulch clear of the trunk; photograph the finished planting.
