Steps
- 1. Photograph the specific hardening item (opening, soffit vent, garage door, or attic connection) as found, and confirm the manufacturer/engineered spec (and permit, for structural connector work) for the measure being installed.
- 2. Confirm owner/occupant consent and scope; for any roof-to-wall strap or gable-end bracing work, confirm the permit and licensed-contractor assignment before starting.
- 3. Install or repair the specific FORTIFIED hardening measure per its manufacturer/engineered spec, working from ground level, a spotted stepladder (6 ft max), or the attic hatch/decking only -- never the roof edge.
- 4. Verify the installed measure meets its FORTIFIED/ICC-600 spec (seated panel, secured bracing, rated connector) and photograph the finished work from the same vantage as the before photos.
- 5. Record the hardening item completed, materials/connector spec used, and any permit/inspection reference into the proof record; sign.
If it does not match the plan
- Any item requiring roof access, scaffolding, or work above 6 ft without a spotter -> STOP: route to a licensed, credentialed crew.
- Roof-to-wall strap or gable-end bracing work always requires a permit and a licensed contractor -- never DIY regardless of skill_level.
- A damaged or non-manufacturer-spec component found during install -> document and route to the FORTIFIED evaluator/licensed contractor rather than force a fit.

- Before and after photos of the specific hardening item from matching vantage points
- Installed hardware matches its manufacturer/engineered wind-rating spec
- No roof-edge or unspotted-ladder work performed
- Permit/inspection reference recorded for any structural connector work (roof-to-wall straps, gable bracing)
