Plant desert-adapted shade trees beside Calexico's bare bus stops (2026-07-19)
Imperial Valley Transit riders in Calexico wait in full desert sun at stops with no shelter and no shade, in the hottest inhabited corner of the state. A desert-adapted shade tree beside each invited stop โ mesquite, palo verde class species โ will shade those waits for decades on almost no water. This is the cheapest permanent transit improvement available here. Standard: Urban and Community Forestry practice with desert-adapted species selection; SDG 11 Sustainable Cities, SDG 13 Climate Action. Proof: Per-stop planted-tree photos plus log with GPS/date Method (Urban and Community Forestry practice with desert-adapted species selection; SDG 11 Sustainable Cities, SDG 13 Climate Action.): 1. Confirm approved planting spots and 811 marking at each stop. 2. Dig, set, and backfill each desert-adapted tree with root flare at grade. 3. Basin, deep-water, mulch, and stake against wind. 4. Log species and stop locations. 5. Photograph each planted tree with the stop in frame and record with GPS and date. Done when: Per-stop planted-tree photos plus log with GPS/date
