Confirm the planting spot with the city's approved street-tree list and call 811 for utility locates.
Dig the planting hole twice the width of the root ball and no deeper than the root flare.
Set the tree straight, backfill with native soil, and water it in thoroughly.
Mulch a ring around the tree keeping mulch off the trunk, and stake only if the site is windy.
Photograph the planted tree beside the bus stop from two angles, GPS-tagged and dated.
