Plant a shade tree beside a bare north Tulsa bus stop
North Tulsa riders wait for the bus on shadeless concrete through Oklahoma summers that now run weeks above 100. One street tree per stop, planted right, is permanent infrastructure for the people who use transit most. Standard: City of Tulsa street tree standards + transit stop improvement guidance; SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities). Proof: before/after photos of the planted, mulched, watered tree at the stop Method (City of Tulsa street tree standards + transit stop improvement guidance; SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities).): 1. Confirm the planting spot with the city's street-tree list and call 811 for locates. 2. Dig the hole twice the root ball width and no deeper than the flare. 3. Set the tree straight, backfill, and water deeply. 4. Mulch a ring clear of the trunk and stake against the wind. 5. Photograph the planted tree beside the stop, GPS-tagged and dated. Done when: before/after photos of the planted, mulched, watered tree at the stop
How this work is done
A documented method, so this packet comes out the same whoever does it. Typically 30–60 minutes. Method of record: i-Tree canopy / street-tree inventory
Bring
- GPS phone
- DBH tape or measuring tape
- tree ID reference
- camera
- hi-vis vest
Steps
- 1. Walk the corridor; record a GPS waypoint at each tree.
- 2. Photograph each surveyed tree.
- 3. Record species (best estimate), condition class (good/fair/poor/dead), and DBH (diameter at breast height).
- 4. Count vacant planting sites.
- 5. Enter the per-tree records, vacant-site count, GPS, photos into the proof record; sign.
If it does not match the plan
- Dead or hazardous tree observed -> flag for the responsible agency (no removal by surveyor).
- High vacant-site count -> recommend a planting plan for the corridor.
What counts as done
- Per-tree species + condition + DBH recorded
- Vacant planting sites counted
- GPS waypoint per tree
- Photo per surveyed tree
Proof is measured against these, not judged by taste.
