How this work is done

Steps

1. Confirm the planting spot with the host household or block group and check it is clear of buried utility lines using the free 811 locate service.
2. Dig a wide, shallow hole two to three times the width of the root ball using hand tools.
3. Plant a desert-adapted shade tree such as palo verde, desert willow, or mesquite level with the ground.
4. Build a watering basin around the tree, water deeply, and add mulch.
5. Photograph each planted tree with GPS and record species and count.
