  2. Clear litter and compacted debris from the pit by hand.
  3. Loosen the top soil layer gently around the base without disturbing major roots.
  4. Add a layer of mulch around the base, kept clear of the trunk.
  5. Water the tree well.
  6. Photograph the restored pit with GPS and date as proof.
