Mark the bed edge and remove the turf or bare dirt down to clean soil.
Lay a weed barrier fabric and cut planting holes at the marked spacing.
Set drought-hardy native and adapted plants at the marked spots and backfill by hand.
Spread a 3 inch layer of rock or bark mulch across the whole bed, keeping mulch off plant stems.
Water the new bed in fully and photograph the finished planting from two angles.
