Confirm current public access rules and any seasonal hunting closures with Gus Engeling Wildlife Management Area staff before visiting, and check in at the headquarters/check-in station as required of all visitors; wear blaze orange during any open hunting season. Confirm the stretch and clearing plan with WMA prescribed-fire program staff before starting.
2. 2. Photograph the debris/leaf-litter buildup before starting, from the same vantage used in the survey.
3. 3. Using hand tools (rakes, loppers), clear woody debris and leaf litter from the mineral-soil firebreak line only, no chainsaw felling and no live fire.
4. 4. Photograph the cleared, exposed mineral-soil line from the matching before vantage.
