- 3. Mark the refuge boundary with a simple edging (logs, low stakes and twine, or existing garden border) so it is not mowed, blown, or bagged by mistake later in the season.
- 4. Photograph the finished refuge from the matching before vantage and record its approximate size.

- Written or recorded permission from the resident precedes any work at their home, and this work is only ever done on the resident's own property with the resident present or informed.

- Confirmation that no lawn or yard chemical of any kind was applied to or near the retained litter, and that the litter was never shredded, blown, or bagged
