Steps
- 1. In the dormant season, after leaf-drop and before spring growth resumes, confirm the frame with the resident and photograph its current growth extent.
- 2. Prune back any growth that has crossed onto the siding, gutter, or roofline with hand pruners, keeping the vine trained to the frame only.
- 3. Check the frame's footings and the gap between the frame and the wall; if the gap has closed anywhere to less than 6 to 8 inches, correct the frame's position before the growing season resumes.
- 4. Photograph the pruned vine and the checked, corrected frame, and record the gap measurement.
