Target already opened the door for agents. Now add the proof.

Alone among its retail peers, Target ships a real llms.txt: a live agent map at HTTP 200. It's labeled "Phase 1," and it stops at shopping: no Target Forward commitments, no agent card, no way for an agent to verify anything. This concept completes the surface Target started: the sustainability commitments made machine-readable, and a per-store proof layer under Target Forward: restore work done at a store, proven with photo + GPS + signature, settled to a permanent on-chain receipt with its tCO2e. Verified place, verified restored, verified funded.

Read this first. This is an independent, unsolicited concept demonstration by EcoWealth Corporation. It was not requested by, produced with, reviewed by, or endorsed by Target Corporation or any affiliate. All observations come from Target's public web pages and public DNS only (passive reads: no scanning, no probing, no authentication). Target®, Target Forward®, and Target Circle® are Target's marks, referenced descriptively. Every "demo" is a concept mock on EcoWealth's own data.
The whole thing, plainly

We found that Target already ships the one thing most retailers don't: a real file that lets AI assistants read the store, but it stops at shopping, with no way for an agent to verify anything about Target Forward. We drafted the next piece, free: sustainability data an AI can read, plus a demo of a proof-verified restore job at a store. The one ask: fund one packet, roughly $150–250.

Four facts from the public record

Ships llms.txt ✓
Credit up front: target.com/llms.txt returns 200: the only real agent front door among the three retailers/health systems reviewed alongside it.
0 Target Forward
That llms.txt is 100% shopping: zero matches for "Target Forward," "sustainability," or "climate." Its own header calls the brand list "Phase 1."
agent-card 404
No /.well-known/agent-card.json, no ai.txt: the map lists pages to read, but gives an agent nothing to do or verify.
1 × WebPage
The Target Forward strategy page carries a single ld+json (structured data machines can read) block (@type WebPage): site chrome, not the goals. Some 2025 goals are graded "evolving."

The concept, in three pages

Capability brief

An evidence-first read of Target's public surface

Baseline credited first: the llms.txt is a real head start most retailers don't have. Then four evidenced findings: the shopping-only map, the missing action/verification surface, the machine-illegible Target Forward commitments, and one hygiene note, each with the exact URL, HTTP status, and re-check command.

Demo: shown, not told

The store-community restore packet

Two acts in Target's own red: Act 1: an agent reads Target's llms.txt and shops (today, real) then hits the ceiling. Act 2: the same open door is extended one step: a restore work packet at a store, claimed by a team member on a step-1 ladder or a local, closed with photo + GPS + signature, settled on-chain with its tCO2e, the per-store proof under Target Forward.

What completing Target's surface looks like

Concept drafts that extend what Target already publishes: a llms.txt Phase 2 (Target Forward + verified outcomes added), an agent card, MCP tool schemas (the standard AI apps call for live actions) for verified store-restore, and a concierge persona. Not a rebuild: the next commit on a file Target already ships.

The proof stack behind this (live today, ours)

Not slides: a running system with reproducible receipts. A live work board reads 7,624 postings / $671,012 posted value at capture across ~90 work types (reproduce: curl https://vealth.net/labor/stats, the counter is the truth, not this page) including place-based restore lanes tree_planting (73), urban_canopy_survey (511), garden_bed_planting (64), clean_waterway, and native_planting; proof-checked packets (photo+GPS+signature); on-chain settlement on Base: EWP contract 0x76c17C…A14B, first settled packet workId 14; agent-payable tools over x402 (work-packet $0.10 · work-tco2e $0.005 · work-proof-check $0.01); and a live end-to-end agent walkthrough: the building-agent golden path.
Target already believes an agent should be able to read it. The next commit lets an agent verify it: Target Forward made machine-readable, and every store's give-back turned into a receipt. Verified place, verified restored, verified funded.

The ask: put one agent on-chain today

Put one agent on-chain today: the scary part, made small:

  1. Give any AI agent (Claude, a GPT-class model, Llama, or your own) a Base wallet holding a few cents of USDC. No account with us, no API key, no sales call.
  2. Point it at a live endpoint: a POST to vealth.net/.well-known/vealth/work-packet answers HTTP 402 with a standard x402 payment schema (scheme: exact · network: base · $0.10 USDC); the agent signs a USDC authorization and pays. A runnable client with a dry-run default is published at vealth.net/recipes.html.
  3. What comes back is a bounded, proof-verified ecological work packet, and every step the agent just took (the payment, the settlement) is an on-chain receipt anyone can verify, forever.

Why this isn't scary: the agent cannot do anything invisible here. Every action embeds its own receipt: permanent, public, verifiable. That is more accountability than most enterprise software offers, not less.

The bet: AI competence is scaling, and Target already ships a machine-readable llms.txt, the one retailer here betting on agent-readability. Being early costs $0.10 and one afternoon. Being late means the proof-verified track records belong to someone else.

Then the funded step (pocket change): fund one Target Forward store-community restore packet at a single store: a native-tree planting or a community-garden build, roughly $150–250 of labor plus cents of settlement. For a company with ~400,000 team members and an enterprise sustainability strategy, that's a rounding error. The deliverable: a permanent on-chain proof receipt (this store, this restoration, this team) with its tCO2e retired, appended to that store's verified Target Forward record. Proof first; the ask is one packet.
